Airsoft is a combat simulation sport in which participants eliminate opponents by hitting each other with spherical plastic pellets launched from a compressed-air gun (or airsoft gun) powered by gas, manual spring-load, or electrically powered gearbox.
Combat situations on the battlefield often involve the use of common military tactics to achieve the objectives set in each game. Participants use varying types of replica weaponry with designs typically based on real firearms, tactical gear, and accessories used by modern military and police organizations.
The sport of airsoft was introduced into the US from Asia where it was developed in the late 1940s. The sport now rivals paintball in popularity.
